AdBlue Contamination

This is partially a result of drivers not knowing the way to use it (important: it is not a fuel additive), and in part because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are frequently directly adjacent to one another on the vehicle.

So, what's the issue with putting AdBlue in your diesel car? Because AdBlue is predominantly deionised water, it's like pouring water into your tank. Diesel and water really do not mix whatsoever and trying to run a diesel car on water isn't going to work. In addition, the urea is fairly corrosive to your fuel system lines and seals and is susceptible to crystallisation, obstructing injectors and fuel filters.

If you find you poured AdBlue into the fuel tank get it out as quickly as possible. And of course never start up the engine - not even to maneuver it away from the pump. In the event that you did start the car you will probably have to have the entire fuel system flushed and fuel filters changed.

Water contaminated fuel
